I hope the rumour of us buying Nketiah is bullshit

Yes.

With the additions of Alvares, Kudus and Mavro, Steidten has been able to assemble some serious talent at the club, hence our relative success this season. Moyes, left to his own devices, would have spunked the Rice money on Maguire and some oversized donkey to provide an "aerial threat" at set-pieces and some more defensive cover.

Re: Didn't we spend the Rice Money well !
They needed Rice having watched all the no-marks who folded in our 2-2 last season
Needed a quality striker & still do. Jesus isnt ruthless enough & Nketiah is nowhere near the quality.
Could have shifted one or both of those & not get involved in that two similar keepers nonsense.

Also having watched 70 mins of their game I can understand Rice's frustration ..... and the 'Superstar' Saka , still dont see it myself. Would take Bowen or KUdus over him every day

Re: Didn't we spend the Rice Money well !
I think Arsenal would have been better off spending 100m on a striker tbh.
That was their problem last season and remains their problem this season.
Position wise at Xmas they are worse off than last season.

Manuel - ''So what was your point exactly?''

You read my post and then ask me that? I'd say it's very clear what my point is - but again, my point is I don't expect a so called football expert who is heralded as some kind of demi god by many, who gets paid millions a year, in Steiden, to waste the Rice money, so no I won't go ott with my praise on the matter, even if you think that is being harsh, but if you want to then fair enough. As for Man Utd wasting money, so what, is that mess the yardstick for us and others now? What about all the other clubs that have also spent well, and there are plenty of them.

Re: Didn't we spend the Rice Money well !

Bizarre statement considering how many fail, look at how badly Man United's elite scouting network got it wrong.

It's 50/50 at best that a player will adapt into a new league/team, all of ours have hit the ground running.

That's not even going into how much they cost which was a very good bit of business all round.

So what was your point exactly?

I don't know what relationship the 2 ex Ajax players had with Heitinga, but having him here on the coaching staff might have helped them.

Re: Didn't we spend the Rice Money well !
You mean as opposed to wasting it? I believe the idea IS to spend it well, and why people in the club are on millions a year to do just that. I wouldn't be giving out too much credit.

Re: Didn't we spend the Rice Money well !
Have said before exchanging Alvarez, JWP & Kudus for Rice has made us a better balanced team.
Suspect someone will take Paqueta for his £85m buyout in the summer so Steidten needs to spend that and another £100m on about 5 players of the quality of last summers incomings

Re: Didn't we spend the Rice Money well !
Wanstead and Gaffer, completely agree. In the Arsenal team last night it was Odergaard’s role to drag them back into the game.

Arguably both he and Rice failed in their roles so let’s give credit to our team for foiling them.

Wansteadman, completing agree, the same as Henderson when at Liverpool or play for England.

Re: Didn't we spend the Rice Money well !
West Ham didn't need a £105m defensive midfielder as much as an Arsenal do because he makes a big difference to them.

Alvarez for £35m is equally effective for us. Kudus, JWP and Mavropanos have definitely improved our squad overall.

Now we need a striker...

Re: Didn't we spend the Rice Money well !
I think rice is a superb footballer but he makes you harder to beat. When you're 2-0 down he's not a player who's going to drag you back into the game with a goal or moment of brilliance

Re: Didn't we spend the Rice Money well !
Ron, my point was in response to Northern Sold saying that we got the better of the deal by far to his Gooner mates. Both teams did well out of it. We’ve spent the money wisely and they have Declan Rice. One game doesn’t change that.

Rice contributed more than enough for us. Hence him being bought for £105m.

Re: Didn't we spend the Rice Money well !
Mavros still has a bit to prove but hopefully a run of games and performances like last night will give him confidence.

Alverez has mostly been decent albeit with a few bad games but it’s the signings of JWP & Kudus that have been the biggest success.

I think what’s also important to note is the improvement this season from a couple of last season’s signings.

Paqueta showed flashes of brilliance last season but this season he has really stepped up and is now far more consistent.

Emerson seems like a completely different player from last season. He’s been superb.

If we had a better defensive alternative at Left Back you could make the case for Emerson filling that left wing role at least on a temporary basis.

Well of course you would, but that was never an option was it. So the point is correct, it’s been used exceptionally well. Alvarez is arguably better as an outright holding midfielder, and certainly we have far better balance where everyone knows their job and is happy to do that job, which Rice seems to be now he has signed for such a massive club, but for us he wanted to be Roy of the Rovers and didn’t contribute anywhere near enough goals to justify it. A fantastic player of course, but I think we’ve improved the midfield by selling him.

Was listening to 606 the other week and a couple of Gooners said that Rice was a steal at the price they got him for.

But yes, it was spent incredibly well. For a change.

Re: Didn't we spend the Rice Money well !
Oh do calm down. Rice has been outstanding for Arsenal all season.

We’ve spent the money brilliantly, but I’d have him back alongside them in a heartbeat.

Come On You Irons 1:44 Fri Dec 29
Re: Didn't we spend the Rice Money well !
We did. Credit the Steidten who no doubt masterminded all the signings.

I called it early in the season that the signings of Alvarez, Ward-Prowse and Kudus all strengthen us and Mavrapanos should be starting regularly instead of the overrated Aguerd.
